About old things
Old things have had a life already
And now they are still living
Because of that former life they have a value
They mean something
They mean something to someone who knows about their former life
Or
They are able to reach someone else
Because of the way they look
Or the color they have
They reach someone because of the feeling they call
That's how old things can get lost and be found again

Below some older items that I received over the years mixed with other things. They all mean something to me. By mixing them, they get a new life.

Flower Girl - Bloemenmeisje

Vorige week was ik in de voorjaarsstemming. Dat betekent dat ik vrolijke kleuren om me heen wil hebben. Bij het tuincentrum zag ik sleutelbloemen in geweldige kleuren. Als je hier niet instand vrolijk van wordt, waarvan dan wel? De voortuin is een beetje kleurloos omdat de winterviooltjes dit jaar hun draai niet lijken te vinden. In de hoop dat dit nog goed komt heb ik alleen de plantenbakken bij de voordeur een kleurshot gegeven.

Elke keer als ik nu naar buiten of naar binnen loop wordt ik weer even vrolijk door de kleurenpracht. Helaas lijkt de winter zich toch nog aan te dienen in Nederland deze week. We wachten af....

Last week I was in the mood for spring. That means that I want surround me with cheerful colors. At the garden center I saw primroses in great color. I fell in love instantly! The front yard is a bit colorless because winter pansies seem not to find their turn this year. In the hope that they will find their turn, I've only added a colorshot to the planters at the front door.

Every time I walk outside or inside, I am smiling because of the colors. Unfortunately, the winter seems still to serve in the Netherlands next week. We'll wait ....

Film-list - Filmlijst

Aan de linkerzijkant van dit blog vind je de films die ik gezien heb. Van recente datum, maar ook van wat jaren terug. Het zijn meestal films met een verhaal, een verhaal dat gaat over mensen en de keuzes die zij in hun leven maken. Vaak gaat het over tegenstellingen, twee kanten van hetzelfde.

Ik hou van Art house films. Met een bezoek aan een filmhuis kun je mij blij maken. Het is de gemoedelijke sfeer en het gemengde publiek (van jong tot oud) die mij in een filmhuis aanspreken, naast het type film uiteraard. Vooraf even een goede kop koffie of latte macchiato en dan naar de film en daarna even bijpraten.

Zo ontstaat een filmlijst in mijn hoofd. Een lijst met films die ik gezien heb en die ik wil aanbevelen. Die ga ik dit jaar met jullie delen. Het gaat om mijn verhaal: waarom ik die film geslaagd, ontroerend, spannend of gewoon leuk vind.

Mijn favoriete filmhuis is Lumiere in Maastricht. Een groot filmhuis dat alles heeft voor het beleven van een mooi verhaal. In opkomst is de ECI cultuurfabriek in Roermond. Het oude filmhuis in de azijnfabriek Roermond sprak mij qua sfeer totaal niet aan. Nu het filmhuis in de ECI cultuurfabriek volledig nieuw is opgezet merk je dat de filmbeleving met stapjes vooruit gaat. Helaas weten de Art house filmliefhebbers van Roermond en omgeving dit vernieuwde filmhuis nog niet massaal te vinden.

La Grande Belezza (bron: de correspondent)

De meest recente door mij bekeken film is La Grande Belezza. Dit is de eerste film die ik twee keer ben gaan bekijken. Normaal heb ik een film gezien als ik hem heb gezien. Maar La Grande Belezza heeft me betoverd, ik kan er naar blijven kijken. De beelden, de kleuren, de muziek, je kunt het voelen, kortom ik raak er niet over uitgepraat. Een film die op iedereen van toepassing is, als je je ervoor openstelt. Terecht de film van het jaar 2013 geworden. Een niet alledaagse recensie vind je hier bij de correspondent door Ernst-Jan Pfauth. Binnenkort deel ik met jullie een ander bijzonder filmpareltje.

On the left side of this blog you find the films I've seen. Recent, but also from a few years back. They are usually films with a story, a story that is about people and the choices they make in their lives. Often these are about opposites, two sides of the same.

I love Art house films. With a visit to an art house-cinema, you can make me happy. It is the friendly atmosphere and the mixed audience (young and old) that appeal to me in a art house cinema, next to the type of film, of course. A good cup of coffee or latte macchiato in advance and then to the film and afterwards socialize.

This creates a film-list. A list of films I have seen and I would recommend. I'm going to share them with you this year. It's my story: why I found that film succeeding, touching, exciting or why I just liked it.

My favorite art house cinema is Lumiere in Maastricht. A great cinema that has everything you expect of a film experience. In attendance is the ECI culture factory in Roermond. The old cinema in the vinegar factory Roermond was not my cup of tea at all. Now the art house-cinema is in the ECI culture factory, with a completely new setup. You notice that the film experience is going forward with steps. Unfortunately, namely Art house film-lovers of Roermond and surrounding don't flock to this new art house cinema yet.

The most recent film viewed by me is La Grande Belezza. This is the first film that I went to see twice. Normally I have seen a film when I saw him. But La Grande Belezza has enchanted me, I can not stop looking. The images, the colors, the music, you can feel it, in short: I can not stop talking about it. A film that applies to everyone, if you do open yourself. Rightly, it became the film of the year 2013. An unusual review can be found here at the correspondent by Ernst-Jan Pfauth. Soon, I share with you another special film.

Packaging - verpakking

Ik ben al een tijdje bezig met het maken van een mooie verpakking voor mijn creaties.
Een tijdje was ik vooral bezig in mijn hoofd met dit plan. Omdat ik zelf altijd opzoek ben naar artikelen met een mooie verpakking, kon dit voor mijn eigen artikelen natuurlijk niet achterblijven.
I've been working on creating a beautiful packing for my creations for a while. Most of that time I was busy in my head with this plan. Because I am always looking for products with nice packaging, it could not stay behind for my own articles.

Duurzaamheid is voor mij heel belangrijk. We zijn gezamenlijk verantwoordelijk voor het milieu.
Daarom wilde ik voor mijn kleine items theeverpakkingen als basis gebruiken. Alleen ik wil wel een mooi totaal plaatje. Daarom heb ik de theedoosjes upcycled naar volwaardige kado verpakkingen.
Sustainability is very important to me. We are jointly responsible for the environment. 
That's why I wanted for my small items tea packaging as a base. But I also want to have a nice compleet picture. Therefore, I have upcycled the tea boxes to a very nice gift packaging. 

Ik ben zelf zeer tevreden met het eindresultaat.
I am very satisfied with the end result.

Over herinneringen en verandering- About memories and changes

Herinneringen zijn mooi. Soms zo mooi dat je ze het liefst nog een keer wilt beleven. Maar herinneringen zijn bijzonder. Ze zijn in staat om iets bijzonders uit een totale situatie te tillen, andere details treden naar de achtergrond of vervagen. Geheel betrouwbaar zijn ze dus niet. Maar als het gaat om mooie herinneringen is dat denk ik ook niet erg. De herinnering bestaat denk ik voor een groot deel uit het gevoel dat we toen hadden of nu denken dat we toen hadden. Daarmee wordt het opnieuw beleven van een herinnering moeilijk. Het is moeilijk om iets van toen opnieuw te willen voelen. Daarbij komt dat wij veranderen en alles om ons heen ook.

Als kind kwam ik veel in Valkenburg en later heb ik er een tijdje gewoond. Als ik Valkenburg kom voelt het nog altijd als thuiskomen. Laatst dacht ik terug aan mijn kindertijd en toen kwam een herinnering voorbij. De herinnering aan het grottenaquarium. Ik ben er maar 1 keer geweest en kan me nog de sidderaal herinneren in het aquarium. Uit verlangen om daar nog eens rond te lopen en te kijken of de sidderaal er nog steeds is - geen idee hoe oud ze worden- ging ik op internet kijken of het nogwel bestaat. Tevens kwam ik een paar recenties tegen. Teleurstelling wilde zich aandringen, de recenties riepen een duidelijk beeld op dat niet in de buurt kwam van mijn herinnering. Gemiddeld was de score nog geen 2. Waarschijnlijk was hier sinds mijn bezoek als kind niets veranderd, in tegenstelling tot hierboven beschreven. Zonde. Om mijn herinnering te koesteren hebben we besloten om maar niet naar het grottenaquarium te gaan. Conclusie: het is maar goed dat alles veranderd.

Memories are beautiful. Sometimes they are so beautiful that you want to experience again. But memories are special. They are able to lift anything special out of a total situation and other details steps to the background or fade. So they are not entirely reliable. But when it comes to beautiful memories I don't think it matters much. The memory, I think, to a large extent from the feeling that we had then or now think that we had then. This is why reliving a memory is difficult. It's hard to feel like everything like then. And in addition we change and everything around us also changes.
As a child I spend much time in Valkenburg and later I lived there for a while. If I go Valkenburg it still feels like coming home. Recently I thought back to my childhood and then a memory came over. The memory of the aquarium displays in a cave. I've only been there one time and can still remember the electric eel in the aquarium. A desire came to take another walk around there and see if the eel is still there - no idea how old they can be-  I went looking on the Internet to check if it still exists. I also came across a few reviews. Disappointment wanted to insist, the reviews called a clear picture that did not match with my memory at all. The average score was not nearby 2! Probably, since my visit as a child, nothing has changed, unlike described above. Sin. To cherish my memory we decided not to go. Conclusion: it's a good thing that everything changes.

De versieringen in de straten waar de prinsen en prinssen wonen zijn niet te missen.

Necklace, felt, lava and coral

Ik  had al een tijdje een aantal kralen van koraal en lava in mijn lade liggen. Zes jaar mag je toch wel een tijdje noemen! Ik had ze destijds gekocht om in combinatie met zilver een ketting te maken. Destijds had ik les in edelsmeden. Echter dat was er niet meer van gekomen. Afgelopen week had ik inspiratie om deze kralen te mixen met handgemaakte vilten kralen. Op deze manier is de ketting ook niet zo zwaar. Ook dat bleef door mijn hoofd spoken.

De kleuren passen goed bijelkaar en een leuke bijkomstigheid is dat ze exact aansluiten bij een jurk die ik heb.

I had a couple of coral and lava beads for more that six years. I bought them to make a necklace in combination with silver. That time I a had classes in silversmiths. 

Last week I had some inspiration to mix them with handmade felted beads. 

This way, the necklace is weights less.

I like to mix materials and they perfectly. 
The colors also matched perfect to a dress I have.

Duck time - felted duck

Gisteren had ik inspiratie om een nieuw vilten dier te maken. Eigenlijk was ik van plan om dit keer gebruik te maken van de natte techniek. Maar nadat ik gestart was met het maken van de basisvorm van wol was ik niet zeker genoeg om het risico te nemen met de natte techniek. Mijn enige ervaring met natvilten is met het maken van ronde kralen en platte items. Een 3D items zal toch wat meer experimenten betekenen.

De basisvorm is klaar en nu moet ik keuzes gaan maken over de kleuren. Wordt het meer puur natuur of toch kleurrijk? Ik ben er nog niet uit. Maar hier alvast wat foto's van de basis vorm.

Yesterday I had some inspiration to make a new felted animal. Actually I had planned to create an animal with the wet felting technic. But starting to make the base form of wool I wasn't sure I wanted to take the risk that the wet felting technic would fail. My only experience with wet felting are felted beads and some two dimensional items. Creating a 3D items needs some experimenting. 

My ducky has now a plain form. I have to decide about the colors to use. Make it more plain and pure of make it colorful. But first some picture of the base form.

Carnaval

Nu december voorbij is en het jaar 2013 is afgesloten, kijken we weer vooruit.
Vooruit kijken is voor veel mensen -met name beneden de rivieren- carnaval 2014. Hoewel de start officieel de 11e van de 11e is, zal vanaf nu de komende maanden hard gewerkt worden aan de outfits en de carnavalswagens.

Voor hen die een lichte carnavalstwist aan hun kleding willen toevoegen rond deze carnavalsdagen heb ik een aantal broches gemaakt. Voor mij staat carnaval voor de nar. Vandaar dat ik een aantal narrenmutjes en een zottekop heb gemaakt van vilt. De mutsjes zijn uiteraard in de kleuren rood, groen en geel!

December is gone, 2013 has ended. The first part of 2014 is for a lot of people a period of had working on outfits and wagons for the Carnival-procession. It's a big feast in the southern of the Netherlands and west Germany. For a subtle twist I made some jester/fools hats with bells.

Creative proces / sur-realistic object

Wat ik prettig vind in creatief bezig zijn is dat je nooit weet waar je uitkomt. Een vrije wandeling die van het een naar het ander leidt en ergens eindigt. Dit creatieve proces vind ik heerlijk. Het zet mijn actieve denken uit en mijn associatieve kant aan.  Ook bij het onderstaande project dat nog niet is afgerond was dit het geval.

What I love about creative processes is that you never know where you will end. It is like a walk that leads you form the one to the other and will end somewhere. That is how this project below started.

Wat startte als een eierwarmer, die ik al lange tijd van wol wil maken, werd een perfecte vorm. Een vorm die inspireerde. Ideeën te over. 

Deze vorm is nu onderdeel van een sur-realistisch object. Het object heeft een propeller gekregen. Omdat ik van natuurlijke materialen houd, is de propeller gemaakt van Balsahout. Het mengen van verschillende materialen zorgt voor een bepaalde spanning. 

It started with making a egg-warmer, that I wanted to make from wool for a long time, ended being a perfect form. A form that inspired. Lots of ideas came.

The perfect form is now part of a sur-realistic object. By now the object has become a propeller. Because I like natural materials, I made the propeller of Balsa wood. Mixing differed materials provides tension.

Het object zal nog op een standaard komen en met een laddertje zal een mannetje naar boven klimmen.

Zowel de standaard als ook de ladder zijn nog afzonderlijke projecten die uitgewerkt moeten worden.

Wordt vervolgd!

The object is not finished. It becomes a standard and a ladder that allows a little man to clime up. The standard and the ladder a individual projects that need to developed.

Felt animals / vilten dierenhoofdjes

In het nieuwe jaar is het tijd om even terug te kijken naar de verschillende vilten dierenhoofdjes die afgelopen half jaar ontstaan zijn. Een aantal van deze dieren zijn nog verkrijgbaar via MDH of via mijn Etsy shop.

A new year is a new beginning. But it is also time to look back at the different felted animal heads that I created the past half year. A couple of these animals are available at my Etsy shop or MDH.
