Nieuwe artikelen in de Shop bij B'Sofies! Niet alleen zijn er aantal nieuwe exemplaren van de magic box beschikbaar ook is er een heel nieuw artikel beschikbaar.

Dit is een slinger met vlaggen gemaakt van kaarten uit een oude atlas. De slinger heeft een oranje katoenen koord en heeft hierdoor een frisse retro look. Hij staat geweldig op een kinderkamer met retro of vintage stijl.

Meer slingers komen op korte termijn. Tevens zijn er magic boxjes in de maak waarbij gebruik is gemaakt van de oude atlaskaarten.

Dagje terug in de tijd met de Romeinen

Dit weekend was het Romeinen weekend  op het Kopse Plateau bij Nijmegen. Een tweejaarlijks festival waar je echte Romeinen tegenkomt. 

Het centrale thema was eten en drinken. Naast lezingen over dit thema kon je ook echt proeven van de gerechten uit die tijd.  

Aan actie geen gebrek met re-enactment. Het Romeinse leger was te bewonderen en ze hadden zelfs hun tentenkamp hier opgezet. Zij kwamen in actie tegen de Barbaren op het veld. Om zeker te zijn van voldoende aanwas van soldaten werd de kleintjes al wat eerste lessen onder de knie gebracht.

Een mooi actief festival van een hoog kwaliteitsniveau met veel aandacht voor kinderen.

C mine in Genk

C mine in Genk stond al lange tijd op ons lijstje maar het kwam er steeds niet van.
Vorgie week zondag was de aanleiding om naar de creatieve markt te gaan kijken de reden om toch af te reizen naar Genk.

Oude mijnindustrie met scooter !

Dit industrieel erfgoed heeft als cultureel centrum een mooie herbestemming gekregen. 

Het bezoek aan de creatieve markt was om te kijken of ik me dit jaar een keer wil aanmelden. De sfeer is geweldig: oude industrie met creatieve mensen en handgemaakte producten. Ik moet wel nog even uitzoeken wanneer de volgende inschrijving en selectie plaats vind. Het is een mooie markt met goede kwaliteit. En er is een leuk gevarieerd publiek. Een aanrader dus.

Na afloop nog heerlijk op het terras van de brasserie genoten van het zonnetje. Wat is het leven toch mooi.

Fell in love with a hotel

Ik ben een redelijk bezige pinner op pinterest. Voor mij een belangrijke inspiratiebron. Het leuke is dat je pinterest kunt gebruiken om iets te zoeken: als je weet wat je zoekt. Maar nog leuker is het om er te vinden. 

Zoals de titel van dit bericht al doet vermoeden heb ik iets gevonden en wel een hotel. Een hotel dat helemaal aansluit bij mijn gevoel: het Amercan Trade hotel. Helaas is de locatie wat minder bereikbaar, want het ligt in Panama city. 

Maar o wat kan ik wegdromen bij het zien van de interieur foto's. Ken je het gevoel van verliefdheid, de vlinders in je buik? Nou dat gevoel krijg ik als ik naar deze foto's kijk. Ah, die sfeer, geweldig!

Het doet me denken aan koloniaal en art deco. Vintage maar dan origineel. Kijk die tegels op de vloer. Kortom een geweldige parel die gered is van verval. Meer lezen over de geschiedenis van dit hotel, kijk dan op Amercan Trade hotel

Lost and found - about old things

About old things
Old things have had a life already
And now they are still living
Because of that former life they have a value
They mean something
They mean something to someone who knows about their former life
Or
They are able to reach someone else
Because of the way they look
Or the color they have
They reach someone because of the feeling they call
That's how old things can get lost and be found again

Over herinneringen en verandering- About memories and changes

Herinneringen zijn mooi. Soms zo mooi dat je ze het liefst nog een keer wilt beleven. Maar herinneringen zijn bijzonder. Ze zijn in staat om iets bijzonders uit een totale situatie te tillen, andere details treden naar de achtergrond of vervagen. Geheel betrouwbaar zijn ze dus niet. Maar als het gaat om mooie herinneringen is dat denk ik ook niet erg. De herinnering bestaat denk ik voor een groot deel uit het gevoel dat we toen hadden of nu denken dat we toen hadden. Daarmee wordt het opnieuw beleven van een herinnering moeilijk. Het is moeilijk om iets van toen opnieuw te willen voelen. Daarbij komt dat wij veranderen en alles om ons heen ook.

Als kind kwam ik veel in Valkenburg en later heb ik er een tijdje gewoond. Als ik Valkenburg kom voelt het nog altijd als thuiskomen. Laatst dacht ik terug aan mijn kindertijd en toen kwam een herinnering voorbij. De herinnering aan het grottenaquarium. Ik ben er maar 1 keer geweest en kan me nog de sidderaal herinneren in het aquarium. Uit verlangen om daar nog eens rond te lopen en te kijken of de sidderaal er nog steeds is - geen idee hoe oud ze worden- ging ik op internet kijken of het nogwel bestaat. Tevens kwam ik een paar recenties tegen. Teleurstelling wilde zich aandringen, de recenties riepen een duidelijk beeld op dat niet in de buurt kwam van mijn herinnering. Gemiddeld was de score nog geen 2. Waarschijnlijk was hier sinds mijn bezoek als kind niets veranderd, in tegenstelling tot hierboven beschreven. Zonde. Om mijn herinnering te koesteren hebben we besloten om maar niet naar het grottenaquarium te gaan. Conclusie: het is maar goed dat alles veranderd.

Memories are beautiful. Sometimes they are so beautiful that you want to experience again. But memories are special. They are able to lift anything special out of a total situation and other details steps to the background or fade. So they are not entirely reliable. But when it comes to beautiful memories I don't think it matters much. The memory, I think, to a large extent from the feeling that we had then or now think that we had then. This is why reliving a memory is difficult. It's hard to feel like everything like then. And in addition we change and everything around us also changes.
As a child I spend much time in Valkenburg and later I lived there for a while. If I go Valkenburg it still feels like coming home. Recently I thought back to my childhood and then a memory came over. The memory of the aquarium displays in a cave. I've only been there one time and can still remember the electric eel in the aquarium. A desire came to take another walk around there and see if the eel is still there - no idea how old they can be-  I went looking on the Internet to check if it still exists. I also came across a few reviews. Disappointment wanted to insist, the reviews called a clear picture that did not match with my memory at all. The average score was not nearby 2! Probably, since my visit as a child, nothing has changed, unlike described above. Sin. To cherish my memory we decided not to go. Conclusion: it's a good thing that everything changes.

Autumn rain

Fireman walk with us

In Maastricht vindt op dit moment de Biënnale Leegstand en Herbestemming plaats.
In dit kader is de tentoonstelling Fireman walk with us in het Eifelgebouw.
Het Eifel gebouw staat in 'lichter laaien'.

In Maastricht is on this moment the first Biënnale vacancy and redevelopment. Goal is to reset our mind-set to improve and use our vacant buildings and locations instead of building something new somewhere else. The Exposition Fireman walk with is, is part of the Biënnale. The Eifel-building (old Sphinx -factory) is 'put on fire' in controle.

Region in transition, Ruhr 2010 .........

After Ruhr 2010 we were not finished with this area in transition.
So this year we went again for 3 day's.
Things you have to see are the landscape park Duisburg Nord and the Zechen Zollferein in Essen.
The basis of these project were the same, a complete area with plants that are not used anymore. Demolishing was a option but also a very expensive one. So the made the right choice to leave the building as they are.
The difference between these two projects is that the Zechen Zollferein has a clear use, for example the Ruhrmuseum and the Red Dot Design museum that are in the buildings. In the landscape park of course de buildings have a function but the the idea is that nature can take over. The functions came also more organically. For example the climbers have a big space were they climb, even for small children there is a wall to climb. The Divers -association has her own base in the old gasometer, now the 'Tauch-gasometer'.

Living the past

What I love about old buildings is the past that they have.

A past before us,

And the fact that we can use the building again

   in a different way, or

   in the same way.

A past of people walking around in the building

   just like we walk in it.

Or hard working people,

   we can only imagine when we close our eyes.

But the mystical thing about old buildings are the doors and windows.

It are the same window and same door.

We walk through them,

they walked through them

We look through them and see the surrounding,

they looked through them and saw the surrounding,

The difference is the surrounding.

We can only imagine what they saw

and what they were feeling.

This is what I like about old buildings to feel the past

of life that was in the building,

being there were someone else was.
